This was an amazing rewarding day. The instructors were excellent and dependable. Petra went above and beyond as we were both over 50 with a 15 year old son in a young group.
We were in the canyon for 5.5 hours. Always moving, clambering over bolders, jumping from one bolder to another, through dark tunnels, up and down steep slopes/cliffs and floating in short stretches.
Whilst you are in the canyon there is no drinking water or food carried. We were given an energy tablet. Expect to burn over 1000 calories!
There was an opportunity for photos to be taken which were emailed to us later by Petra. This was much appreciated and made good memories.
It was mentally and physically tough and totally full on. I am really glad we hired the special boots as I am sure they help avoid injury.
There were some opportunities to jump from the rocks or upgrade to include abseiling. The pictures of this were great. We did the first jump but declined the rest and the optional 9m jump.
I’m not sure I realised how full on this was going to be. I had visions of long floats down the river but instead these were limited.
This is well equipped but no frills trip. For example prepare to change in the open after the session before you get onto the coach to go home. Make sure you bring a big towel.
As hard as it was there was an immense sense of achievement. It would probably suit younger and much fitter people as once you start it is full on for hours and seemingly there was no way to quit.
Once again the instructors especially Petra were excellent. We felt like we had really achieved something and I am glad we did it.
Our 15 year old son really enjoyed it. At the beginning he said it was the best day ever, although as we went on he had to learn to dig deeper.
